Pinelands Primary School

Pinelands, Cape Town

The developers of this school are deeply interested in the creating an advanced learning environment for children. We were brought on board to work with the architect to design an enriching campus where the learners can learn about maths, science, geography and biology through interaction and play.

The building was designed around a courtyard, providing a sheltered outdoor space that is immediately accessible from every classroom. Stormwater will be gathered from the roofs and channelled into a bioswale at the centre of the courtyard. Rock and timber are used to create outdoor teaching venues and interactive play spaces. The bioswale becomes the ecological core to the school and flows down to the main gateway, providing an attractive entrance to the school.
